Bedroom: Quick Remodeling Ideas

by Ellen Mclaughlin 02/14/2022

Your bedroom should provide you with a comfortable place to relax and sleep. If your bedroom isn’t quite what you want it to be, doing some remodeling can change that. Remodeling your bedroom can help ensure that you have an ideal sleep environment that suits your needs. If you’re not sure where to start with remodeling your bedroom, consider the following ideas.

Enlarge Your Closet

If you have a small closet in your bedroom, you might be able to turn it into a walk-in one that provides plenty of storage. If you have enough space, you can expand both sides of your closet and the back part of it. Having a walk-in closet is a great way to add value to your home while also giving yourself more space to store clothes, accessories, shoes and other items. When you have this space, you can cut back on visible piles of clutter in your bedroom or even eliminate a dresser for more floor space.

Create a Seating Area with a View

Having a seating area in your bedroom offers a pleasant place to curl up with a book before bedtime. You can also use this space for reading when you have some free time. To make your reading nook even better, put it close to a window. If you don’t have much floor space to work with, you can create a reading nook with a view by installing a bay window with seating. These windows provide plenty of natural light, beautiful views of the outdoors and space for built-in seating. You can also install some built-in shelves to store books in your seating area.

Add a Bathroom

If you’re searching for a major change to make to your bedroom, consider adding a bathroom. Having a bathroom connected to your bedroom provides convenience, as well as better safety. You won’t have to walk down a dark hallway or make your way downstairs during the night to reach a bathroom when you have one attached to your bedroom. Since this is a major project that involves dealing with plumbing and electricity, you should find an experienced contractor to work with. Keep in mind that adding a bathroom to your bedroom can also increase your home’s value.

Install a Ceiling Fan and Lighting

If you rely on lamps for light in your bedroom, you should consider installing an overhead light. If you already have a ceiling fixture, consider updating it or replacing it with a ceiling fan and lighting combination. Ceiling fans can help ensure that your room feels cool enough at night, while the light fixture provides brighter lighting that you might need at times. You might also want to explore other lighting options for your bedroom, such as recessed lighting for softer illumination or wall sconces for an elegant and stylish touch.

Add Built-in Storage

Instead of having the space under your bed filled with bins or having clutter pile up on nightstands and dressers, consider adding built-in storage to your bedroom. You can have half a wall or an entire wall of shelves built into your bedroom, which provides a good place to store items and display photos and other objects. You can also check into having built-in cabinets and cubbyholes installed in your bedroom for storage.
